One country, six different worlds

Australia is a continent and a country at once, covering about 7.7 million square kilometres, almost the size of the mainland United States. It is divided into six states and two mainland territories, and most Australians live along the coast, far from the dry interior. This guide covers six regions: New South Wales, Queensland, the Northern Territory, Tasmania, Western Australia and Victoria.

The climate changes as you travel south. The tropical north has a wet and a dry season, with monsoon rains and crocodiles in its rivers; the south has four seasons, cool winters and even snow in the mountains. In between you will find big coastal cities, the red Outback, ancient rainforest and some of the best beaches in the world.
